Moving Estimate Inventory - When getting a estimates from a moving company, be sure that you receive a thorough and legible inventory of items to be moved by the movers. This is the main basis for the price of your move. Moving companies will give a quote based on what you tell them you have or if they go out to your place for a physical walk through estimate. Usually local movers charge by the hour. Long distance moving is charged by distance and how much the shipment weighs.
Descriptive Inventory: A descriptive inventory is the receipt showing each item you shipped and what condition it is in. Check and inspect your items and furniture as they come off the truck. If you miss something, for interstate household moving you usually have up to nine months to file a claim. But understand, the longer you wait to file a claim, the less likely it is that the carrier or moving company will consider it to be valid.
